Did you know that you could get some money back from the government just for replacing your windows and doors? Energy-efficient windows and doors that have earned the ENERGY STAR seal of approval (like Feldco windows and doors) are eligible for this tax credit.
Below, we’ll break down the details of this government tax credit and explain what you need to do.
According to energystar.gov, the Environmental Protection Agency’s government website, you can receive a tax credit on ENERGY STAR replacement windows of up to 10% of the cost of the windows up to $200. Not bad considering you might have thought about replacing your old windows anyway.
One thing to note is that this figure doesn’t include the price of window installation, and applies only to the purchase price of your new windows.
The only other requirement is that the windows that you purchase must be ENERGY STAR approved by the government. Feldco windows are eligible.
If you’re planning on replacing an entry door, storm door or patio door, you are eligible to receive up to 10% of the cost of the door up to $500. That’s not a bad deal at all!
Again, the door you choose must be ENERGY STAR certified but we’ve got you covered with all of our energy-efficient doors.
Apart from the windows and doors being ENERGY STAR certified, they must also be installed in your “principle residence” or the home where you live most of the time in the United States. The home can be a house, houseboat, mobile home, co-op apartment, condo or a manufactured home.
Also, you don’t have to replace all of the windows and doors in your home to qualify for these tax credits.
If you’ve bought energy-efficient windows and doors and want to receive your due credit, you have to fill out tax form 5695 from the IRS.
Similar to any other tax form, form 5695 requires you to calculate your credit and enter it on line 15 of the form. Once filled out, file form 5695 with your regular income taxes.
Here’s a short list of what you need to know:
The tax credit is only good until the end of the year so hurry and get a free quote on windows or doors right now! It’s a great time to buy new energy-efficient windows and doors will save you in the long run, in fact, probably much more money than this government tax credit offers.
